Downbeat Magazine may have rated this album quite high but I find this one of the weakest of Miss Sutton's. (Too bad, the liner notes have been substituted with just a photocopy of the front and back pages to know why this album is called such although I surmise that this is all about Americana). If I am right that this is a themed album, this just might be its saving grace. I was expecting that these selections be given new treatments in the light that she is a jazz artist but with just a few bending of the notes, that was it. What surprised me most are the 3 consecutive last songs - "Somewhere,""Something's Coming Cool," and "America The Beautful" - was I hearing Barbra Streisand from her Broadway albums?
