The story takes place on Christmas Eve in Shinjuku, Tokyo. Middle-aged has-been Gin, aging transvestite Hana, and teenage runaway Miyuki are homeless friends who have formed a makeshift family structure bond. That bond is tested when they find an abandoned baby while searching for food in a trash dumpster. They try to care for the infant themselves, and travel throughout the city in search of the baby's parents.

This is one of my new favorite animated movies. I didn't know anything about it going in but it is so full of hilarious charm and heart.

This was one of the best films to be set during Christmas.

This is very good story that shows how anyone can show compassion. The animation could have been a little better, but I think that our Hollywood could do a real version(if they stick to the story & locations). I could see "Rupaul" in this one( I don't know if I spelled His/Her name right) along with an other certain actor.

The animation was well done but, unfortunately, not very visually pleasing. The characters, in my view, were not very interesting. This is not the best anime from Japan for sure. Subtitles.

This is a brilliant movie from the late great Satoshi Kon. If you liked Paprika, you'll love this. I love how Mr. Kon showed the stories of three homeless people and their attempt to get that little girl safely home. It's a visual treat and I recommend it highly.

An updated and thoroughly oddified version of John Ford's western Three Godfathers, starring John Wayne. It's truly wonderful, a moving story with a number of messages, and further proof, if anyone needs it, that Satoshi Kon's death was a great loss.

Best Christmas movie ever! You can even watch for the subtle Christmas movie references in this film! Reminds me of Akira Kurasawa's The Lower Depths in tone and mood of the characters, just upped a notch into anime! Much better than I expected!

This is one of the best films I have ever seen. It is funny, it is sad, it is exciting, it is brilliant. Anyone who still thinks that Japanese anime is "just cartoons for kids" should check out this film. The animation is rich in detail and multi-layered; the characters are not at all cartoon figures, they are oh, so human. If this film is not already a classic, it certainly deserves to be. Do yourself a favour, give yourself a treat; watch this film. Very Highly Recommended.
