It is the time of the Great Depression. Thousands have left their homes looking for a better life, a new life. But Marcus Connelly is not one of them. He searches for one thing, and one thing only. Revenge. Because out there, riding the rails, stalking the camps, is the scarred vagrant who murdered Connelly's daughter. No one knows him, but everyone knows his name: Mr. Shivers. In this extraordinary debut, Robert Jackson Bennett tells the story of an America haunted by murder and desperation. A world in which one man must face a dark truth and answer the question-how much is he willing to sacrifice for his satisfaction?

Great book by a great writer. I your a fan of southern Gothic horror and have an open mind you wont be disappointed . Every book he writes is twice as good as the last.

Great read! Brings to mind Stephen King's Gunslinger, or Neil Gaimen's American Gods. If you enjoyed these titles or even McCarthy's The Road, you're in for a treat! Highly recommended!

Quite good. The professional reviews invoking the names of Cormac McCarthy and John Steinbeck are apt (more homage than imitation), and the horror is not overdone or cliched. Elegant, but accessible. Slightly predictable, but that was mostly the fortune-teller's fault. I'd happily read more by this writer.
